Varun Gandhi and Hindu Activism

Chaitra Amawasya

The whirlpool made by the Saffron Brigade at Pilbhit Parliament constituency in Utter Pradesh now a days is renting the air.. “Varun nahin hai, e anndi hai” i.e. It is not mere Varun . It is a Cyclone indeed. The vindictive Bahujan Samaj Party lead by Miss. Mayabati imposed the National Security Act, NSA upon Varun Gandhi for his Big Offence as he declared in a public rally that .. “the hands torturing the Hindu mothers and sisters should be simply chopped off.” Varun’s speech has been considered by the Govt. as very communal and anti-muslim.

In this connection Varun was strangled by this stringent section of law as he does not get the bail even for 6 months. But Azmal Ameer Kasav, the infamous Pakistani national for 26/11 Mumbai Mayhem was not tracked under NSA. Even the Communal Imam of Kolkata Tipu Sultan Mosque, Imam Barkati was not taken under NSA for issuing a Fatwa of Beheadment (Quatal) of apostate Taslima Nasrin , the humanist and anti-islamic writer of Bangladesh, worth a big prize of 5 lakh rupee. The administration and police have no power to take this Imam under custody, even no suit can be made against him. This is the real contradiction of situation in the arena of controlling communalism in India. And the Indians are now habituated with this trend of muslim appeasement pilled over them.

But the Hindu activists should keep one thing in their mind that there is nothing to be exalted with one statement made by Varun Gandhi. It will be not a matter of showing intelligence. The statement of Varun Gandhi and the arrest afterwards created a certain polarization of Hindus which will give a dividend to a Political Party. But that Party may throw this issue into waste paper basket after making profit out of it. The persecuted and humiliated Hindus will be in the same place of street sides evacuated from their hearth and home. At least Hindus got this lesson from the Ram Mandir Issue of Ayodhya during the last decade.

Yes, Varun came to us like a cyclone. He may disappear in the same way as cyclone goes off. But he should be judged a further ahead. After all, Varun is a Politician and he belongs to that Gandhi-Nehru family, both of which are really difficult to trust. The Politicians are multifaceted and Gandhis are not trust-worthy. If Varun Gandhi can elevate himself above these factors, He is Most Welcome to the vulnerable Hindu society. It’s the time to watch a little more.

Honoring Muslims and Insulting Hindus is the secularism of Congress Government !

Vaishakh Krushna 2, Kaliyug Varsha 5114

By Advocate Yashawant Phadanis

During her regime as the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi planted a sapling of ‘secularism’ and fulfilled the dream of Jawaharlal Nehru. The 42nd amendment of the Indian Constitution was proved to be for throttling of democratic freedom and basic rights conferred by the Constitution. The writer of the article has tried to illustrate the worthlessness of secularism and its use for appeasement of Muslims, by giving examples.

1. Futility of secularism in Indian Constitution !

In the year 1976, former Congress Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi imposed emergency on this country and gave birth to the concept of secularism imported by her father Jawaharlal Nehru. The 42nd amendment of the Indian Constitution proved to be throttling of democratic freedom of people and their basic rights conferred by the Constitution. In our cultured land, such imported sapling was not at all necessary and there is no need for it even now. Therefore, this concept was also not included by the creators of the Constitution in the year 1950. Hindu Dharma sown in this land basically teaches to respect all. It is very unfortunate that the secularism, brought in from the countries in Europe or even any of the countries in the world, has not been included is in their Constitution.

2. Deliberate apathy of secular Government towards ‘Common Civil Rights’ prescribed in the Constitution !

On one hand, make claims about secularism of religions and Sects and on the other hand, follow separate personal laws meant for every religion and sect, is the secularism of this country! There is Hindu law for Hindus, Mohammedan Law for Muslims besides independent laws for Christians and Parsees followed even today in this country. The ‘Common Civil Rights’ ‘clause 44’ of the Constitution is still catching dust. The Supreme Court has given orders in 6-7 cases from Shaha Bano case for adopting ‘Common Civil Rights’ Act; even then, all the ‘secular’ Governments that ruled over this country so far, right from the Government of Narasimha rao, are showing deliberate apathy towards this issue; only for the (vote bank) politics !

3. Few examples of ill effects of secularism

Since adoption of secularism, its adverse effects are being experienced, more severely day by day, of this concept. The series of events can be briefly explained in the following manner.

  • 3.A.  To conduct a survey on Muslims in armed forces, is a danger for security arrangements ! : The ruling Congress Government at the Centre issued order to conduct survey of Muslims in all 3 armed forces. Sacchar Committee was set up and its report also made this clear. Army Chief General J J Singh, who had complete knowledge of the issue as related to national identity, expressed opposition considering the likely danger for the security of the country.
  • 3.B. Public auction of Hindus’ religious sentiments :   Anti-national painter M F Husain not only hurt religious sentiments of Hindus by drawing indecent and nude pictures of Deities like Sri Saraswati, Sri Vishnu, Sri Lakshmi, Prabhu Sriram, Seeta, Hanuman; but he also drew nude picture of ‘Bharatmata’ and kept it on sale for helping earthquake – stricken people of Kashmir.
  • 3.c. Govt. deliberately overlooks terrorist outrage of Muslims’ religious sentiments : A Muslim minister named Mohammad Yakub Qureshi from Uttar Pradesh declared an award of Rs. 51 crores and same amount of gold for killing the person who drew a caricature of Prophet Mohammad and published it in a newspaper from Denmark. The chief Imam Bukhari of Delhi’s Jama Masjid made an open appeal to Muslims for taking to the roads in protest against insult of Prophet Mohammad. As a result, Muslims took out protest marches at many places becoming violent and leading to arson; destroying Hindus’ properties looting them. The Central Government and Mulayam Singh (Khan) of Uttar Pradesh, however, overlooked such anti-national terrorist activities.(Ref. Dharmabhaskar, March 2012)

Indira Gandhi’s kowtowing to Muslims and Muslim nations displaying their hatred by insulting India!

‘During the regime of Indira Gandhi as the Prime Minister, Yashwantrao Chavan issued a ‘fatwa’ that ‘Muslims should be recruited in armed forces in proportionate to their population’. This was strongly opposed throughout the country. Around this time, a conference of 37 Muslim countries was held at ‘Rabat’. India was not invited as it was not a Muslim country; even then, Indira Gandhi sent the then Industry Minister, Fakruddin Ali Mohammad (who was later appointed as the President of India) as Indian representative to that conference; but only because he was a representative of Bharat, he was not offered even water in the Muslim conference although he was a Muslim. He was deliberately insulted; but Indira Gandhi’s Congress Government did not feel either ashamed or bad about this incident.’ (Ref. Dharmabhaskar, March 2012)

Undivided Hindu Nation is a right of Hindus ! – Mr. Dhananjay Desai

Mumbai : When ‘jihadis’ are gobbling part of this country, is it wrong to have an armed force ? We should worship God, Nation and Dharma. Political leaders, who bow before Muslims although they have spoiled Kashmir, are teaching laws to Hindus. How can these impotent leaders protect this country ? Even now, police are not given orders to crush anti-nationals. Now, whenever Hindus are oppressed, they will pay with the same coin. Undivided Hindu Rashtra is our moral, religious and just right. If Hindus unite as Hindus, nobody in this world can dare to harass them.  Israel has been fighting with all its neighboring Muslim countries and has preserved her self-respect. India has, however, become weak. The forgetful Hindus need to preserve their self-respect. The above fiery views were expressed by Mr. Dhananjay Desai; the President of ‘Hindu Rashtra Sena’ while addressing a rally organized at Tardeo, Mumbai. More than 1000 devout Hindus took part in the rally. The rally was also attended by Mr. Abhay Vartak, the spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha who gave guidance on the topic of ‘Need for Hindu Rashtra’. Mr. Navin Chomal, the renowned advocate was present on the dais so also advocate Bhasin.

‘Hindu Rashtra’ is the answer to many problems faced by Hindus ! – Mr. Abhay Vartak

Today, we are not ashamed of celebrating ‘31st December’, ‘Valentine Day’ or celebrate birthdays in western style or calling mother as mummy instead of ‘Aai’. Maharana Pratap, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Swatantryaveer Savarkar never celebrated either 31st December or Valentine Day. They burnt clothes manufactured by the British; therefore, we could get freedom. We are, however, being disloyal to the freedom fighters and feel like celebrating 31st December. We are not taught history of freedom fighters. The Government has suppressed the history of revolutionaries; everywhere secularism is growing rampant. O brothers, this has to be changed. There is need for intense patriotism and love for Dharma for establishment of Hindu Rashtra. The condition of Hindus is worsening. The Government is trying to pass an Act that will attack our faiths whereas it is taking no action against Dr. Zakir Naik who openly supports terrorism. We, Hindus are facing several problems and the only solution to them is Hindu Rashtra. Today, when 80% of the population is Hindu, Bharat is a secular country; tomorrow, when Muslims become 80%, this Nation will not remain secular; but it will become a Muslim country; therefore, insist for Hindu Rashtra today !

Shiv temple turns into slaughterhouse in Pakistan

Shiv temple turns into slaughterhouse in Pakistan

A self-proclaimed Muslim cleric have seized a century old historic Shiv temple located in Pawaldass compound of Lyari town, Karachi, Sindh province. This Shiv temple has been turned into a slaughter area by local butchers. Baghdadi police reportedly allow the Muslims to slaughter the cows inside the compound’s walls. (Ref: The News)

Shocking facts

  • “They have erased the pictures of Hindu deities from the tiles of the temple, and forced Hindu worshippers to move to a small nearby room, where not more than two people can worship at a given time.” – Iqbal Haider, general secretary of the HRCP
  • Baghdadi police reportedly allow the Muslims to slaughter the cows inside the compound’s walls to insult Hindu religion and scare the community.
  • Whenever there are any Hindu religious ceremonies, like Holy, Deewali, Janam Ashtmi or the birthday of Shiva Jee, inside the compound, the Muslim extremists throw stones and filth to stop the functions and the police do not intervene at all to stop these acts.
  • Several Hindu girls have been reportedly raped within the compound but the Baghdadi police showed no willingness to register the cases. According to the All Pakistan Minority Alliance, this year has already seen roughly 25 girls from the Hindu community allegedly forced to convert to Islam in the province of Sindh. The method of choice to convert the girls who are abducted is to have them marry within the Muslim community.
  • The concerned compound is exclusively earmarked for Hindu families by the Sindh provincial government under the Evacuee Property Act 1957 but land grabbers have been forcibly evicting residents in this compound with the help of Baghdadi police in Kakri ground, Lyari town. As a result of this the number of families have decreased to 35.

A petition

We demand that –

1. The encroachment should be evicted and the temple be handed over to the Hindu families who have been living there.
2. The sanctity of the temple be reinstated and made suitable for worship of Hindus.
3. Those involved in this dastardly act be punished.
4. Protection should be granted to the temple to prevent recurrences of such instances.
5. The Pakistan Government to intervene in this matter and see that atrocities against Hindus are stopped and respect given to Hindus.
6. The Indian Government to lodge their protest against this and protect the rights and respect of the Hindus in Pakistan.

Updated

Dattapeetha (Karnataka): On 14 October 2008, the Karnataka Government granted permission for the conduct of Hindu rituals at the Dattapeetha located on the Chandradrona hill of Chickamagalur district. On this occasion about 1000 Hindus performed Vedic Pooja at the site of the Dattapeetha.During this occasion HJS had got opportunity to perform pooja and had got responsibility of welcoming saints and distribute prasadam.

Initially Ganesh puja was performed which was followed by Navagraha puja and the Satya Datta Vrata. About 50 activists of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti were present on this occasion, which was graced by the auspicious presence of Parama Poojya Sadguru Swami Atmananda Saraswati Maharaj (Sri Samarth Sridhar Ashram, Vijaynagar, Bangalore, Srimahanta Srijamunapuriji Maharaj (Kashi, Varanasi) and Poojya Srisiddhalinga Swami (Andola Math, Bijapur).

Since May 2007, the activists of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had begun visiting the Dattapeetha on the Pournima of every month and plead the government to grant permission to the Hindus to perform ritualistic worship there. After the untiring efforts of HJS the Honourable High Court of Karnataka on 14.2.2007 agreed for upholding the pooja at Dattapeeth and declared the equal right for Hindus to offer ritualistic worship at the Dattapeetha.

The Samiti made efforts to implement this rule on 15 consecutive occasions of Poornima. The rule passed by Single Bench division of Karnataka High Court for perfoming the Pooja was not accepted by State Government and it took it forward to two-member bench division but two-member bench division of the High Court on 4.8.2008 rejected the request of Government upholding the right of the Hindus to offer worship at the Dattapeetha. Yielding to this order of the High Court, the State Government has provided the Hindus with the opportunity of performing ritualistic worship at Dattapeeth.

The legal battle fought by the Sriguru Dattatreya Dattapeetha Samvardhana Samiti since 1978 has finally culminated in victory. Thanks to the efforts of the Sriguru Dattatreya Dattapeetha Samvardhana Samiti and the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, the Hindus have finally attained the right to offer worship.(The victory in this legal battle has proved  another feather in the success cap of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti! – Editor)

Both  Parama Poojya Sadguru Swami Atmananda Saraswati Maharaj and Poojya Sri Siddhalinga Swami expressed sadness over the fact that the Government had not granted permission for the worship of the ‘Padukas’. HC allows Hindus to take ‘Darshan’ at Dattapeetha

August 7, 2008

Jyeshtha Krushna Chaturthi

Chikkamangalur (Karnataka):
In February 2007, Endowment Department of Deve Gouda Government had issued an order under which Hindus were prohibited from performing ‘puja’ at ‘Dattapeetha’ which was forcibly taken over by Muslims. Alert Hindus had filed a case against the said order. A single member court under the High Court had quashed the order and asked to conduct an enquiry as to why such order was issued. It was also ordered that a regulation should be prepared for giving opportunity to both Hindus and Muslims to have ‘darshan’ as per their traditions.

Karnataka Government objected to this order and filed an affidavit in High Court. A stay order on the order for period of 8 weeks was obtained. Recently, the 2-member special court under Shri. Deepak Verma, the Chief Judge of Karnataka High Court quashed the affidavit of the State Government and gave a verdict that order issued by a single member Court should be immediately implemented.

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): Under the auspicious of HJS, 27 Hindu Dharmabhimani’s visited the cave temple of Dattapeetha in Chikkamagaloor for the thirteenth time on pournima day.

Once again it has been observed by the HJS members that Muslims have made the environment hectic near cave temple as earlier.

As the earlier visits the district officials denied Pooja rights for HJS and they had only Darshan of the “Holy Feet” in the cave temple. But the sad point in this visit was that the first ever BJP Govt. in South India which claims to be savior for Hindu cause has denied Pooja Rights this time.

Is the Sign boards for non-muslims only?

It has been same as before that the district administration denying Pooja Rights to HJS for its 12th continued request.

Its is really tearful to say that the entire premises of Sri Dattapeetha polluted by thousands of Muslims after “Urus” celebration. In spite of sign board showing restriction for preparing / eating non vegetarian foods in the range of 200mtrs of cave temple, the Muslims are openly preparing and consuming non vegetarian food inside the restricted premises very near to cave temple.

In Manikyadhara holy bath place entire area has made dirty by throwing used cloths in spite of restrictions. District administration has failed to have control over both the foul situations.

HJS members requested orally to the police officials to take needful action to maintain the cleanliness in and around the premises of the cave temple and Manikyadhara so that the holiness of the temple retained so that the devotees get the holy benefit of Sri Dattapeetha.

Dattapeetham : Preliminary success to the struggle of HJS

March 24, 2008

Phalgun Krushna Trutiya

Udupi (Karnataka): The struggle of HJS for the last 10 months for pooja rights to Hindus in Dattapeetham has achieved partial success by the grace of “Guru Dattatreya”.

After the high court judgment according pooja rights to Hindus in Dattapeetham as practiced earlier to 1975, the Hindus under the auspices of HJS have been visiting Dattapeetha on every pournima seeking pooja rights. The devotees are deprived of pooja rights every time by the Govt. & hence they have been returning only with Darshan of “Holy Feet”. But as their have been a good number of spiritual experiences to those who have visited Dattapeetha, the number of devotees visiting Dattapeetha has increased.

Bill board banning consumption of non-veg food
Bill board banning consumption of non-veg food

As every pournima the devotees from Udupi & Puttur visited Dattapeetha on 21st march and have observed two welcome developments this time.

A new bill board is put up prominently at the entrance to Dattapeetha cave temple. It imposes total ban on alcohol & non vegetarian food in the radius of 200mtrs from the cave temple violation of which is a punishable offense. (Till now preparation & consumption of non vegetarian food in the area had no restriction. A police official on duty says that the restriction is being strictly implemented now.) This step would contribute to increase the “Satvikata” of the environment.

Similarly a new bill board is put up in “Manikhyadhara” stating that the cloths used while taking bath should be put in the big bin kept for the same & throwing them otherwise is a punishable offense. (Till now such cloths were being thrown in the area causing environmental pollution).

These bill boards would help in increasing “Satvikata” of the environment in Dattapeetha & these steps by the authorities is an indication of partial success to the struggle of HJS.

Later while complementing the district authorities for the steps taken to increase “Satvikata” in Dattapeetha area, Sri.Shivananda Prabhu (HJS South India Spokesperson) said that the struggle will continue until Hindus obtain pooja rights in Dattapeetha.

Hindu still stuggling for Pooja Rights in Dattapeetha

February 24, 2008

Udupi (Karnataka): Every pournima is an auspicious occasion for Hindus in Karnataka to visit Datta Peetha and participate in the holy struggle by HJS for Pooja rights on the Holy Feet of Sri Gurudattatreya. Accordingly 44 Hindus including sadhaks from udupi, puthur, sullia, Hassan & Chikamagloor led by Sri.Rajesh visited the  of Datta Peetha on 21st Feb 2008.

The devotees had holy bath in Manikyadhara, visited Datta Peetha & had Darshan of holy padukas.

The administration as in earlier occasion denied permission for Pooja and allowed only Darshan of the holy feet. Sri.Rajesh, HJS informed the Tahashildaar (Chikamagloor) who was on the spot that HJS has been applying every month for permission to perform pooja at dattapeetha on the day of pournami and that no acknowledgement or reply has been received from the govt. authorities so far. He enquired as to why reply is not given though it is right of every citizen to get a reply to the letter submitted to the authorities.  The Tahashildaar replied that no letter is received by him and that he would look into the matter.

January 25, 2008

Udupi (Karnataka): The struggle for restoration of Hindu Rights to perform pooja at the holy feet of Lord Dattatreya at Dattapeetha near chikkamagaloor is being continued by HJS on every full moonday. Udupi (Karnataka): The auspicious day of incarnation of Lord Dattatreya on Margasheera Shudha Pournima is celebrated as “Datta Jayanti” by all Hindus, Accordingly HJS activists from Udupi along with 2500 devotees from Bajarang Dal celebrated Datta Jayanti on the holy hills of Dattapeetha today.

Even on this auspicious day Hindus were denied of the rights to perform pooja & had to content with only ‘Darshan’ of the Holy Feet. The number of devotees in Dattapeetha were around 2500 today. HJS activists as part of their continued struggle for “right to worship” had Holy bath in Manikyadhara & held discussions on Dattapeetha issue with Shri.C. T. Ravi, MLA, Chikmagalur & Shri. Mahendra Kumar, State convener of Bajarang Dal.

However the positive development observed is that a good number of police men also have taken holy bath in Manikyadhara along with devotees.

Puja banned in Dattapeetham despite Court orders

September 8, 2007

Mangalore (Karnataka): Police prohibited members of Hindu organizations from performing puja in Dattapeetham at Chikkmagalur. Muslims have encroached upon the Dattapeetham area and have constructed a Durgah. Some alert Hindus had filed a case against them. Karnataka High Court took cognizance of the case and granted permission to Hindus to perform puja in Dattapeetham; still the present BJP and Janata Dal front Government ruling the State is prohibiting Hindus from performing puja. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has started agitation against it and every month devout Hindus go to Datta-pitha and ask for permission to perform puja; but they are denied permission. (Anti-Hindu and Anti- justice BJP-JD Govt. insults Court. – Editor) This time also, Hindus going to Dattapeetham had the same experience.

Devout Hindus have become enraged due to Administration’s such stance and they made Shri. Dayanand, Dy. Commissioner and Shri. Manjunath, Tehsildar to go to the place of event. On their arrival, Shri. Shivanand Prabhu, the spokesperson of HJS for Southern India, read out the Court Order and sought permission to perform puja. The Dy. Commissioner and Tehsildar agreed with Shri. Prabhu; but showed their inability to grant necessary permission. (It is a barrier on Hindus to perform puja in a Hindu majority nation and is against their religious freedom. Hindus should realize that none of the political parties or strong Hindu Organizations would do anything on the issue and they should become ‘Dharma-yoddhas’ to protect Dharma. – Editor)

Karnataka Government prohibits puja in Dattapeetham

Procession towards Dattapeetham
Procession towards Dattapeetham

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): On the full moon day on 30th June, 33 members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) went to perform puja at Datta-peeth; but the State Government prohibited them from performing puja. This is the third time in a row; the devotees have been banned from performing puja. Members of HJS coming from South Canara, Udupi and Hassan districts sought permission of the Government to perform puja, which was refused, and they were allowed only to have ‘darshan’ of the ‘paduka’ of Lord Datta. Karnataka High Court had issued an order, in the month of February, directing the Karnataka Government to allow Hindus to perform puja in Datta-Peeth; but the Government has insulted the High Court by prohibiting Hindus from puja. HJS has declared that it will stage strong agitations till permission is granted to Hindus for performing puja.

Chikmagalur district magistrate has initiated action against Shri. Shivanand Prabhu, the spokesperson of HJS for South India and other members for disturbing the law and order against which HJS has obtained a stay order from the district court.

(This shows that the Karnataka Government is so insensitive towards Hindus. – Editor)

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): Hindu Janajagruti Samiti with other like-minded organizations and devout Hindus has started a campaign to perform ritualistic worship (Puja) at the Dattapeetham. The campaign was flagged off by Swami Purushottam Das along with 75 HJS members on May 1st at the Dattapeetham. It was then decided that on every full moon day, the HJS members would go to the Dattapeetham to offer ‘Puja’ along with a priest. The police, however, have denied ‘Pooja’ rights to the members for a consecutive second time.

Police denied Hindus to worship, treated pilgrims as Terrorists

June 1, 2007

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): On May 31, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had organized a pilgrimage tour to Sri Dattatreya peetha (Dattapeetham) to offer prayers to Lord Datta’s paduka at the holy cave on Mount Chandradrona on the occasion of pournima. About 100 persons including ladies & children came from various districts of the state like Dakshina kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalore, Hassan & Shimoga. They included devotees from Sanatan Sanstha & other Hindu organizations.

Citing the High court judgment given two months ago, Shri. Shivananda Prabhu, south India spokesperson of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti said that if Hindus are not allowed to offer pooja in spite of the judgement, Muslims should also not entitled to that right. The police did not give a satisfactory reply to this statement.

It may be recalled that this is the second time in so many months that the police have denied permission for Hindu’s to offer pooja at the peetham.

The pilgrims had to be satisfied with only the darshan of the holy padukas & peetham.

The handbags of all the pilgrims were checked

Police Treatment to pilgrims as terrorists –

  • The handbags of all the pilgrims were checked & mobile phones were not allowed to be taken inside.
  • Photographs of each one of pilgrims were taken by the police.

Experience of Visitors

The first time visitors were horrified to see the condition of the place. There were makeshift sheds all around the temple where Muslims lived. In spite of notice boards proclaiming harsh punishment to the offenders, egg shells & feathers of chicken were strewn within 200 meters of the cave. Filthy water flowed near the sheds & stinking garbage was littered all over the place. The authorities are not doing anything to maintain the sanctity of the place. The pilgrims returned with a heavy heart with a prayer at the feet of Lord Datta for speedy restoration of the temple to Hindus.

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): Shri. Shivananda Prabhu, The convenor of South India, HJS led a team of 60 Hindus coming from different places to perform Pooja in Dattapeetham near Chikmagalur. The team consisted of Shri. B. Vittal Rao, The trustee, Shree Guru Dattatreya Peetha Devasthana Samvardhana Samithi, Shri. Purushotham Das, HJS, Mathura. The representatives of Hindu organizations from Udupi and Sanatan Sanstha’s seekers and HJS activists.

Shri. Shivananda Prabhu & Shri. B.Vittal Rao explained to the high ranked Police Officials and gathered media people and public about the High Court order and sought permission to perform Pooja in Dattapeetham as per Hindu rituals. The police official firmly denied permission and allowed only to have ‘darshan’.

Accordingly the team had ‘darshan’ of ‘Holy Feet’ of Dattapeetham and on return from the cave temple registered its protest with press against denial to perform Pooja. Eighteen persons from Udupi participated in the program of whom twelve were leader/representatives of Hindu Organizations and six were Sanatan Seekers.

Hindus once again not allowed performing pooja; Awareness Campaign initiated

December 27, 2005

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): Congress Government of Karnataka, refused to permit Hindus to perform pooja of Lord Dattatreya on Datta Jayanti, 15.12.2005 (Margashirsha Pournima). Inspite of the Court orders which have given Hindus the right to perform their traditional pooja and worship. At the same time, Government has once again granted permission unconditionally to the Muslims who celebrated their Uroos festival in this so called Grave of Baba Budan in April this year.

Past History about Pooja

  • In 1991 the Karnataka High Court and then the Supreme Court of India have given Hindus the right to worship in the originally Guru Dattapeetham.
  • From 1999 to 2003 Karnataka Government had given permission for the “Hom” ritual in this temple.
  • In 2004 and this year too, Government has refused to grant permission. Only one Hindu at a time is allowed inside the Temple.
  • During 1999-2003, Mr. Chandragouda The then minister of Karnataka Government had himself visited this temple and performed ritual pooja and hom.
  • On 13th December 2005, just 2 days before Datta Jayanti, several Mathadheeshas along with activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Janjagruti Samiti visited the place for seeking permission to do pooja and “hom”. The Policemen who were guarding the entrance flatly refused to let Hindu acivists within the temple. A staggering 1000 policemen were guarding the temple entrance. Policemen even refused to let Hindu activists within the temple to light incense and offer coconut.

HJS Awareness Campaign

  • Karnataka State ministers have been asked by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti to present this point in the State Assembly.
  • Letters of protest have been submitted to each District Officer within Karnataka State.

In all these letters it has been highlighted how the Karnataka State Government has even refused to accept the Supreme Court orders.

Media Coverage of Press Conference

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Karnataka State spokesperson Shri. Shivanand Prabhu today stated the Samiti’s stand against Government prohibition of Hindus to perform their traditional ritualist pooja within the Temple premises in a Press Conference.

  • Local newspapers have immediately taken note of this and have published this news in their all editions on very next day. (Especially in the Capital City of Bangalore)
  • E-TV Kannada one of the premier TV Channels has telecast the entire press conference.
  • Private Cable operators like Citi Cable too have shown this conference in all parts of Karnataka.

Dattapeetham: Status Report

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): Given below is an account of what an HJS reporter observed at the Dattapeetham.

The way leading to the Dattapeetham built with strong iron structures
Devotee must pass through
  • The way leading to the Dattapeetham has been built with strong iron structures and barricades on both the sides. Devotees have to go through this structure to reach the Dattapeetham. This structure looks as if it is the India-Pakistan border.
  • Muslim devotees bring poultry and eggs with them, cook it and throw away the egg-shells and other leftovers near the Dattapeetham at the backside of the shrine. This is contrary to the rule that non-vegetarian food is prohibited within 200 meters of the Dattapeetham.
  • Devotees and women members of HJS were also questioned by police constables and their belongings were checked. Do we need to undergo such checking to enter our own temples?
  • All the shops at Dattapeetham are owned by Muslims. Non-vegetarian meals are served at this place!
  • There are many tombs in the vicinity of the Dattapeetham. One such tomb has come up recently in the past year and a police constable has been appointed to guard it.

About Dattapeetham

30 Kms near Chikamangaloor city, is “Inam Dattapeetham”, a holy place for Hindus. This peetham is on the holy mountain of Chandradrona, mentioned in the Ramayana. Lord Dattatreya himself had done penance in the Northernmost corner of this Peetham. His padukas made of Silver and wood have been preserved in the temple. In front of the temple is a Nandadeep. This entire area is called as Garbhagruha, and in the area adjacent to the Garbhagruha, 4 disciples of Lord Dattatreya would chant Vedic hymns. In the 18th Century, this place was inhabited by Baba Budan, a Sufi saint due to which this place began to be called as Baba Budangiri. The actual Dattapeetham is in a cave.

Currently Hindu devotees going to this temple are allowed to go in a queue few at a time. There are often more Police guarding this Peeth than the number of Hindu devotees. Muslim devotees are shown Dhoop and touched with peacock feathers. Government has refused permission to Hindus to do mantrapathan, chant vedas or other Hindu Religious Scriptures in this temple.

Court Judgment

In 1964, the rights of this Religious place were given by the government to the Wakf Board. However, Hindus moved the Chikamangaloor court in protest that their right to worshipping their deity, Lord Dattatreya was being denied. Consequently, in the court of law the Magistrate in favour of justice gave the following judgement:

  • Baba Budan Darga is an old organisation under the control of the Chairperson of National Controller of Religious Organisations act of 1927, granting the Gurudattatreya Peetham entirely to the Wakf board without considering its property has gone against law. The rules and regulations laid down by the Wakf board or third argument of the Wakf board do not apply to Hindus. All rights are restored as before 1975.
  • All the subsequent appeals of questioning this judgement of court of Chikamangaloor made by Wakf Board as per RFA 119, 1980, were flatly rejected by the High Court of Karnataka, which upheld the Hindus’ rights to conduct any kind of worship within the temple.
  • Court Decision regarding the Dattatreya Jayanti Utsav: The high court of Karnatak has rejected 3 writ petitions made by the Wakf board (no. 35838 1998, 37878 1999, 38148 2000) to prevent Hindus from performing their Dattatreya Jayanti Utsav in the Dattapeetham and Baba Budan Grave. High court has advised the government to take the initiative for ensuring that Datta Jayanti Utsav is celebrated in a peaceful manner as it was being done before 1975 and that no further Religious Customs would be introduced by both Hindus and Muslims apart from those followed earlier than 1975.

What do Government Records say?

  • RTC index of lands, Record of rights have both recorded Baba Budan Darga and Dattatreya peetham to be separate Organisations.
  • Has been clearly recorded as Dattatreya Peetham on page 13 no. 46 in the Directory of Religious Institutions in Chikmangaloor published by the Government’s Controllers Department of Religious Organisations (Mujarai).

Siddhivinayak Trust Scam

Siddhivinayak Trust Scam

Siddhivinayak TempleAll Siddhivinayak devotees should remember that Maharashtra Govt. took over the Siddhivinayak trust in 1981. Maharashtra Govt. appoints custodians and trustees for the temple to manage its activities. Donations made by devotees in Millions rest in the hands of these appointed trustees.

The Donations from the devotees are being misused as per the whims and fancies of the trustees and Government. Millions of rupees are siphoned of into companies owned by Ministers, for their use. While this matter was sub-judice, the trustees blew up Millions on their meetings in 7 stars hotels! Is blowing up the hard earned money of devotees, not a cruel mockery of democracy?

Donations from devotees should be spent on the religious matters only!

Temples are the ancient and age old foundations of our Sanatan Dharma. Knowing the importance of the tenets of Dharma, anti-social and anti-religious groups launched their attack on Sanatan Dharma. In fact, we should be spreading the teachings of Sanatan Dharma through the temples all over India. Hegemony of the politicians empowers them to misuse their powers and shake the very roots of our Hindu Dharma. Donations received by temples should be used for spreading spirituality, imparting knowledge to devotees on Dharma and for the upkeep of the temples. Part of the Donations should be utilized for social and educational upliftment. But what is the ground reality today?

The Fact Finding Committee Report

The Fact Finding Committee Report

TirupatiDuring the month of April, 2006, it was reported in the press and electronic media that certain activists of Christian community have been carrying out undesirable activities at the holy places of Tirumala Hills and Tirupathi and these acts have been severely hurting and agitating the religious feelings of the multitude of devout Hindus. Therefore, taking into consideration the seriousness of the situation, His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Visweswara Theertha of Pejavar Mutt, Udipi, requested us viz., Sri Justice G. Bikshapathy, Sri Justice K.B. Siddappa, former Judges of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Sri T.S. Rao, former Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh, Smt. Dr. P. Geervani, former Vice-Chancellor of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyala and Sri Dr. R. Shrihari, Former Vice-Chancellor of Dravidian University, Kuppam, to function as a Fact Finding Committee under the Chairmanship of Sri Justice G.

Bikshapathy to ascertain the factual position as regards the activities of Non-Hindu religious communities in Tirumala and Tirupathi and to furnish a report to His Holiness for considering the steps to be taken to prevent undesirable activities of the Christian and other Non-Hindu Communities.

On an analysis of the information furnished by the members of the public before the
Committee, the following facts emerge.

Activities relating to Propagation and Conversion to Christianity

(i) Members of the Christian Community distributed religious pamphlets and copies of Bible to the students who were returning after writing the EAMCET examinations conducted at various centres inTirupathi in May, 2006. Apart from other persons, who deposed before the Committee, this information was also disclosed by the son of Sri Prabhakara Acharya, Secretary of Vaikhanasa Ashram at Tirumala, who appeared for the EAMCET examinations. This activity of the Christians led to serious tense situation in Tirupathi. It was also revealed to the Committee that large number of women and men, dividing themselves into several groups, distributed Christian religious material at various places including EAMCET centres. Some student organizations protested against these activities. Police had to intervene to maintain law and order.

(ii) On 9th of April, 2006, two Christians by name Balaraju (pastor) and Babu while coming down from Tirumala to Tirupathi in bus bearing No.AP 11Z 1130 distributed pamphlets propagating Christianity to the pilgrims travelling in that bus. One of the passengers by name Sri Arvind of Hyderabad complained the matter to the AV&SO Sri S. Sivananda Kishore, who after enquiry gave a report dated 11.4.2006 to the Vigilance and Security Officer, TTD (Copy of the report is enclosed as Annexure-III). Basing on his report, a case in Crime No.8/2006 (copy of FIR dated 11.04.2006 is enclosed as Annexure-IV) was registered against S. Balaraju and P. Babu, residents of Tirupathi and the police took up investigation.

On the basis of the said complaint, Sri R. Sivananda Kishore (AV&SO, Sector-III, TTD, Tirumala), in his report recommended as follows: “In the light of instant case, the following recommendations may be considered to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.

  1. As per Rule 197 of APCHR and E Act 1987 the population living in Tirumala shall adhere to the norms and shall follow the sentiments of Hindu Religion. As such thorough probe has to be taken up to verify the antecedents of Non-Hindu Employees who are working in TTD as well as Government departments i.e., Police, Fire Services, Commercial Taxes and etc., who are staying in Tirumala. The identified employees and their families shall be shifted from Tirumala.
  2. Some of the family members of the TTD employees such as wife, children are practicing Christian ideology and inviting the Pastors to conduct prayers in their houses at Tirumala. The above aspect may be carefully examined and steps taken to prevent the above activities in Tirumala.
  3. In the Rule 198 of APCHR & E Act 1987 the following activities shall be prohibited at Tirumala :-
    1. Carrying and possession of Holy books of other religions like BIBLE, QURAN etc.
    2. Any kind of propagation of other than Hindu religion by way of distribution of pamphlets, Literature, Brochures, Stickers, Banners, Flags, including prayers and speeches etc.”

(iii) It is reported that two Christian women belonging to Chilakuluripet were found in the TTD queue complex and they were caught red-handed on 26.4.2006 distributing religious pamphlets to the pilgrims in the queue and were handed over to the Deputy Superintendent of Police at Tirumala by the pilgrims themselves. The Committee was informed that the Vigilance personnel took into custody these two Christian women and produced them before the DSP, Tirumala. The Committee was told that the Special Officer got released those two women after questioning them and arranged special darshan and gave Prasadam. When the Committee met the Executive Officer on 22.06.2006, Special Officer Sri Dharma Reddy was present and he told the Committee that those two women came from an old age home run by a Christian Mission and they stated that as per the wish of some of the inmates of the old age home who were suffering from AIDS, they came to get Prasadam for distributing it to those inmates, and on that representation of the two women, he permitted them to have darshan after signing the requisite declaration and gave them the Prasadam. No name of the Old Age home was disclosed. It is highly unlikely that a Christian would travel long distance to visit Tirumala to collect Prasadam offered by a Hindu Religious Temple to be given to the inmates of an old age home run by a Christian Mission. It should be noted that the two women did not disclose to the concerned TTD officials before entering the queue complex that they were Christians, and they got into the queue complex without signing the requisite declaration and obtaining permission of the concerned TTD officials.

(iv) Two Christians viz., David (pastor) and Kumar, were found propagating Christianity in Tirumala and they were handed over to police. The police seem to have registered a case and kept them for two days on remand. Those two persons admitted that they committed a mistake. The EO, TTD who stated that the two were indulging in religious propaganda, also confirmed this. However, strangely the Special Officer, Sri Dharma Reddy, stated that they did not indulge in any Christian propaganda. The two Christians were eventually released without taking any action against them. On 21st May 2006, Special Officer Sri Dharma Reddy held press conference in which he stated that no Christian religious propaganda was going on in Tirumala. It is evident that he is not taking a serious view of these objectionable activities of the Christians at the holy place of Tirumala.

Propagation of Christian religion in educational institutions in Tirupathi

(i) Educational institutions at Tirupathi were established on TTD land and with TTD funds. It is brought to the notice of the Committee that in the colleges and hostels at Tirupathi, Christian religious propagation is rampant. The Christian students themselves are acting as propagators. Sri Deva Sangeetham, Principal of S.V. University College is openly indulging in propagating and converting the students to Christianity by making them go to Church, reading Bible and creating disaffection towards Hindu religion. After Sri Deva Sangeetham has taken charge as Principal, the practice of garlanding the portrait of Lord Venkateswara was stopped.

(ii) After Smt. Veena Noble Das took charge as Vice-chancellor of Padmavathi Mahila University, she got removed the photos of Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi from all the institutions of the Mahila University and she also got removed the portrait of Lord Venkateswara from her office and discontinued the practice of garlanding the portraits of Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi everyday. Instead she kept a portrait of Jesus Christ and the Cross n her office table. She is sending batches of students in the University buses to the church. It is also stated that in the Mahila University, the students are not allowed to have tilak on the forehead now a days and that students putting tilak are being discriminated.

Employment in the TTD

It is brought to the notice of the Committee that only Hindus have to be appointed as employees in the TTD. However the EO stated that for some period this was not followed with the result that some Muslim personnel came to be appointed. He further stated that steps are being taken to shift them to some other places gradually. It is further brought to the notice of the Committee that some employees in the TTD are also professing Christianity and that in the police quarters also congregations and prayers are being conducted regularly. There are about 40 Christian families residing in Tirumala and they are holding religious congregations at their houses on Sundays. It is stated that even in the Annadanam Complex there is one employee viz., Sri Ananda Raju belonging to Christian community, working as superintendent. The EO has stated that he will enquire and take action. It is also stated that one Christian lady is also working in the electrical department. Gopinath, Garden Superintendent also belongs to Christian community.

Non-Hindu Employees of TTD and their activities

It is brought to the notice of the Committee that many people from Christian and Muslim communities were being employed in the TTD and some of the Hindu employees were even converted as Christians and they practice the Christianity. About 40 families in Balaji Colony are Christians. They hold congregations and prayers on Sundays. The Committee is informed that Gopinath who was posted on deputation as Garden Superintendent is a Christian and that he criticizes worshipping Lord Venkateswara saying why should a black stone be decorated with garlands, and that he indulges in criticizing Hindu Religion. Considering the above facts and circumstances, the Committee is of the opinion that the propagation of Christianity with an ulterior motive of conversion is taking place in Tirupathi and Tirumala. Since the EO has categorically has assured the Committee that no such incidents will be allowed to take place, the matter has to be reviewed periodically.

Scouts and Guides

In the queue complex number of Scouts and Guides are deployed to regulate the pilgrims. It is understood that details of the religion of the persons who are so engaged is not verified and that some of them belong to non-Hindu communities. The Committee also observed that the Scouts and Guides are allowed into the main temple and to have Darshan. The Executive Officer has informed the Committee that he would take appropriate measures to prevent non-Hindus being deployed as Scouts and Guides in Tirumala.

Hawkers and Shopkeepers

It is brought to the notice of the Committee that there are number of hawkers who belong to Muslim community. Two instances are given. Shop Nos. 192 and 72 in the Shopping Complex are run by Sri Jamal Khadar and Maithri. When this is brought to the notice of EO he assured the Committee that he will look into the matter and take appropriate action. It is also further brought to the notice of the Committee that unauthorized hawkers are taken out of Tirumala by midnight and left in interior Bakrapeta forest area. Even in this process also, mainly Hindus are targeted and Muslims are rarely touched. Opposite to Lepakshi Emporium, there are about 50 Nepali shopkeepers who are Christians and they also offer prayers on Sundays, reading Bible and other Christian religious material in Tirumala. About 40 Muslim shopkeepers also are there in Tirumala. They offer Namaz on Fridays in Tirumala. There are also some Muslim hawkers mostly from Kadiri (Ananthapur District).

Contract Workers

The Committee is informed by the Executive Officer that on account of prohibition of recruitment in a number of departments like Health & Sanitation, Kalyanakatta, Roads and Buildings etc., workers are being engaged in those departments through contractors. Some of the contract workers so employed are Christians and Muslims and there is no check to see that only Hindus are engaged and to prevent non-Hindus being so engaged. . In this connection, TTD also stated that they did not verify the religion particulars of the contract labourers and also scouts and guides. The EO has assured that he will take necessary steps in this regard.

Dress Code and putting tilakam

Even though the EO has stated that dress code and tilakam were prescribed for the employees, these were not being strictly implemented. The Committee impressed upon the EO to implement it these strictly.

Other Illegal Activities in Tirumala

(i) The Committee is informed that various illegal activities both at Tirumala and Tirupathi are going on, such as sale and consumption of liquor, sale and consumption of meat, flesh trade, gambling etc.

(ii) It is also brought to the notice of the Committee that cow slaughter is also going on in down hill at Tirupathi near D.R. Mahal and that the meat is being transported to Tirumala clandestinely.

(iii) It is further brought to the notice of the Committee that TTD Kalyana Mandapam at Nagalapuram is being used by the Christians for their prayer congregations and for performance of Christian marriages. Near Sree Rama and Siva Temple in Tirupathi, Christian prayers and propagation of religion are taking place intercepting the Hindu devotees visiting the temples and persuade them to join Christianity.

(iv) It is also brought to the notice of the Committee that the newly constituted Specified Authority in place of the Board of Trustees, (the term of which has expired) is being headed by Sri D. Rosaiah, I.A.S. who is said to be a Christian.

(v) The Tourism Department is going to take up erection and operation of Rope Way from Tirupathi to Tirumala. It is also learnt that the Tourism Department plans to establish Multiplexes, Food Courts and other Entertainment and Recreational Spots on Tirumala Hills. The Committee feels that in order to facilitate the activities of Tourism Department on the hills, the area of TTD is restricted to two hills covering an area of 27.5 sq.kms.

Judgment

The EO was handed over a copy of the Judgment of a Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court reported in 1997(2) ALD Page 59 (DB) – Tallapakam Koppu Raghavan Vs State of A .P. (Copy of the Judgment is enclosed as Annexure-V). The Division Bench has observed in that Judgment as follows:-

“Although there is no documentation available as the origin is lost in antiquity, there is no attempt made before us to question the ownership of the Lord Venkateswara of Seven Hills. This being true and a real concept the Board of Trustees, the Committee or the Executive Officer are only administrators of the property of Lord Venkateswara. They can have no right of ownership in themselves and they cannot thus decide to do anything against the interest of the right of the owner i.e., in the instant case, Lord Venkateswara. Once the ownership is resolved and the right to administer is deemed to vest as provided under Article 26 of the Constitution of India in the plurality of the devotees and regulated by the provisions of the Act and Rules framed thereunder, no administrator, whether appointed under the Act or otherwise can take liberty to destroy the sanctity and Holiness of the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams and domain, as we have already held, extends to all the Seven Hills called ‘Tirumala’.”

The Sacred Seven Hills

The Committee is of the considered opinion that restricting the area of TTD to only 21 KMs covering 2 hills, runs counter to the ancient texts and age old traditions and practices of the temple and that the Hindus always considered Sri Venkateswara as Lord of the Seven Hills and lakhs of devotees climb the Seven Hills with utmost devotion and reverence bare footed chanting the names of Lord Venkateswara. The Committee further feels that opening the Seven Hills to the Tourism Department will destroy the sanctity, serenity and spirituality of the Seven Hills and will seriously hurt the feelings of the Hindus throughout the Country and the World.

Funds of The TTD

It is brought to the notice of the Committee that previously Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Samithi was organizing various activities like Harikathas, devotional lectures and concerts in religious music and dance by eminent artists. Now, the name Hindu has been removed and a Dharma Prachara Parishad is in its place which is hardly conducting any religious discourses by eminent Hindu spiritual leaders and is not conducting any religious cultural activities by prominent artists. The members of the public further expressed that eminent Hindu spiritual leaders should be invited to give discourses regularly at important places through out the country and even abroad. They are of the further opinion that contributions of the devotees running into Hundreds of Crores should be utilized only for Hindu Religious and Dharmic activities and various service activities in the name of Lord Venkateswara only. The funds should not be diverted to other activities.

The Committee was informed that the Devasthanam has donated considerable land to a Muslim organization for construction of Mosque which has seriously hurt and agitated Hindus and arousing their religious sentiments. Several persons have expressed that more than 35,000 temples in the State are not having any means for performing daily poojas and donating for other religions is wholly unwarranted.

Constitution of TTD Board and Committee

It is the general view of the public that TTD Board and its Committees should comprise of eminent devout Hindus who have contributed to the development of the Hindu faith and spirituality and Government of the day should take the advice of the Hindu Dharmacharyas and Hindu Spiritual Leaders in making such appointments.

Distortion of map of India by ‘Google Analytics’

Appeal to Patriotic Indians

Distortion of Indian Map by 'Google Analytics'

A patriotic Indian has brought to our notice that Google Analytics has depicted incorrect map of India in its application. As it is evident from the image shown alongside, Google has not shown Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep Islands in the domain of India. Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep Islands are integral parts of India and by publishing such a map Google has hurt the sentiments of billions of patriotic Indians and has committed serious national crime. It is the duty of all patriotic Indians to protest lawfully against this act of Google, so that it stop this deliberate distortion of India’s borders and also it tenders a public apology for hurting the national sentiments of billions of Indians.

Image 1 by maps.google.co.in shows the correct map of India. Image 2 by maps.google.com shows the distorted and incorrect map of India (Showing Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh with a dotted line). Image 3 by ditu.google.cn shows some part of Jammu & Kashmir and whole Arunachal Pradesh as a part of China. Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh are integral parts of India. This is a dual game being played by Google with billions of Indians across the world. Hence, this must be protested against and the company should change the incorrect Maps and tender an unconditional apology.
